91¾«Ñ¡ is pleased to proclaim Monday October 25, 2021 as Canadian School Library Day / Journée nationale des bibliothèques scolaires canadiennes (91¾«Ñ¡D/JNBSC).

91¾«Ñ¡D celebrates the role of school libraries as part of and . 91¾«Ñ¡D provides an opportunity to celebrate the unique contribution of school libraries to student success and well-being.

The theme of 91¾«Ñ¡D 2021 is Making Our Mark: School Library Success Stories.

We know that school libraries across the country are still dealing with the challenges and realities of supporting students and teachers during pandemic restrictions. Still, we know that you are doing great work and this special day provides a welcome opportunity to highlight the unique contributions of the school library and school library professionals as you reboot and make your mark to support your school community.

Share Success Stories on Canadian School Library Day

How are you, as school library professionals, making your mark as you continue to address the challenges of this pandemic?

  • How are you making readers and thinkers and doers?
  • How are you making research and inquiry a focus for your school community?
  • How are you making time for attention to student and staff well-being?
  • How are you engaging learners in physical and virtual maker thinking and activities?

However you are making your mark, we want the world to hear.

91¾«Ñ¡D/JNBSC also marks the first day of Media Literacy Week 2021

(MLW) runs from October 25–30, 2021. Media Literacy Week is an annual event promoting digital and media literacy across Canada. Schools, libraries, museums and community groups organize events and activities throughout the week.

In 2021 each of the first five days of MLW will highlight one of five media literacy themes – use, understand, engage, accessÌý²¹²Ô»åÌý±¹±ð°ù¾±´Ú²â. 91¾«Ñ¡ collaborates with to support Media Literacy Week. Help us to spread the word with the hashtag #MediaLitWk.

91¾«Ñ¡D 2019 Theme: Celebrating ’s 5th Anniversary! 

Canadian School Library Day (91¾«Ñ¡D)  2019 is coming up on Monday October 28. As Leading Learning celebrates five years since first publication this year we hope schools will focus 91¾«Ñ¡D events and celebrations to profile how has helped libraries in schools/districts/provinces/territories to grow as vibrant library learning commons.

Preparing for 91¾«Ñ¡D: Celebrating Your School’s Progress with Leading Learning

The advances you are making with Leading Learning are worth celebrating! Celebrating with evidence of your successes and making that evidence visible reinforces the value of the library learning commons. 

 Ideas to get you started: 

  • Make use of the  Leading Learning badge in all your promotions. (flyers, posters, bookmarks, buttons, website etc.)
  • Link Leading Learning/L’apprentissage en tête websites to your virtual learning commons.
  • Feature one or more Leading Learning standards in your 91¾«Ñ¡D events and celebrations. For example: 
    • Designing Learning Environments to Support Participatory Learning: Invite students to share stories of the many ways the LLC environment helps them to explore their own interests and also collaborate with others in school and virtually.
    • Fostering Literacies to Empower Life-Long Learners – Engaging Readers: Organize a virtual author visit; invite the school community to participate in a day of creativity and innovation in the LLC.
    • Designing Learning Environments: Designing for a Participatory School Culture: Put your 91¾«Ñ¡D celebrations in the hands of the students: Have a student committee design a day to celebrate the role of the library in the culture of the school. 
  • Create a poster celebrating a vision statement for your school LLC and the standards of practice. Share the poster widely, in print and virtually.
  • Create a video or infographic of how you have addressed each standard of practice or one particular standard in the LLC. Share the product widely via your virtual library learning commons, the school website / newsletter, etc.

And the serious (but extremely important) stuff! 

  • Correlate your school goals to the standards framework in a presentation to share with administration and staff and parents.
  • Organize your budget proposal and annual report using this correlation. 

Celebrating on the Day

What can you do on the date marked to celebrate Canadian School Library Day, October 28, 2019? Be sure to make the connection to your Leading Learning successes!

At Your School: 

  • Host a library open house
  • Host a special school-wide event related to a particular program in your library: 
    • Maker event
    • Reading event
    • Info-literacy event
  • Share your celebrations with the district / province / country / world through social media using the hashtag #91¾«Ñ¡D2019

In Your School District:

  • Declare 91¾«Ñ¡D district-wide and support schools in their celebrations
  • Write a media release highlighting 91¾«Ñ¡D and connections to learning using Leading Learning and invite local media to a school for an event / interviews, etc. 
  • Take advantage of the day to seek out opportunities to highlight the work of the school library to senior administrative and instructional leaders in the school district, and to elected school board members
  • Share your celebrations with the district / province / country / world through social media using the hashtag #91¾«Ñ¡D2019

In Your Association: 

  • Declare 91¾«Ñ¡D in your province / territory and support schools and districts in their celebrations
  • Collect ideas and stories from your members 
  • Submit your good news stories to 91¾«Ñ¡ for publication 
  • Share your celebrations with the province / country / world through social media using the hashtag #91¾«Ñ¡D2019

Moving Forward with Leading Learning

How can you continue to use Leading Learning to advance the library learning commons in your school / district / province / territory? Use this 91¾«Ñ¡D celebration of Leading Learning to inspire your future planning. 

Ideas to get you started: 

  • Explore the standards, understanding them as a catalyst for change. Leading Learning is a catalyst for igniting the design of futures oriented learning. The document positions the school library learning commons as critical to innovative pedagogical approaches for the new century. 
  • Explore the new section of the Leading Learning website to discover how to use the standards to advance learning for all. 

In this section, discover how Leading Learning can be utilized as:

  • A Diagnostic Tool:  Use the standards to determine where your current library is functioning and then as a growth tool to set deliberate goals for improvement. 
  • A Professional Learning Tool: Enrich your own professional learning about the Learning Commons approach and then help administration, staff, parents and students understand the potential for whole school improvement. 
  • A Framework for Action Research: Use Leading Learning to identify areas of focus for teacher action research. Establish an LLC team and make research collaborative. Use the 91¾«Ñ¡ Research Toolkit to make your plan. 
  • An Implementation Guide: Use the standards as a solid guide for planning your ongoing transitions from library to library learning commons.
    • Read and consider the questions found in to help you target an area of need for your LLC.
    • Use other to help with the transition process.

Thème de la JNBSC 2019: Célébrer le 5e anniversaire de

La Journée canadienne des bibliothèques scolaires (JNBSC) 2019 aura lieu lundi, le 28 octobre. Comme L’apprentissage en tête célèbre cette année ses cinq ans depuis sa première publication, nous espérons que les écoles organiseront des événements et des célébrations JNBSC pour montrer comment aide les bibliothèques dans les écoles, les districts, les provinces et territoires à se développer en tant que communautés d’apprentissage de bibliothèques dynamiques.

Se préparer pour la JNBSC: Célébrer les progrès de votre école grâce à L’apprentissage en tête

Les progrès que vous faites avec L’apprentissage en tête méritent d’être célébrés! Célébrer avec les preuves de vos succès et les rendre visibles renforce la valeur des ressources communes d’apprentissage de la bibliothèque. 

Des idées pour vous aider à démarrer:

  • Faite usage du symbole de L’apprentissage en tête dans vos promotions. (prospectus, affiches, signets, boutons, sites web, etc.)
  • Présentez une ou plusieurs normes de L’apprentissage en tête dans vos événements et célébrations JNBSC. Par exemple:
    • Créer des environnements d’apprentissage qui soutiennent l’apprentissage participatif: Invitez les élèves à partager des récits illustrant les nombreuses façons dont l’environnement LLC les aide à explorer leurs propres intérêts et à collaborer avec d’autres élèves dans l’école et de façon virtuelle.
    • Favoriser les littératies afin de former des apprenants pour la vie – Lecteurs engagés: organiser une visite virtuelle d’un auteur; invitez la communauté scolaire à participer à une journée de créativité et d’innovation au sein de la LLC.
    • Créer des environnements d’apprentissage – Inscription du carrefour d’apprentissage dans la culture de l’école: Mettez vos célébrations JNBSC entre les mains des étudiants: Demandez à un comité d’étudiants de concevoir une journée pour célébrer le rôle de la bibliothèque dans la culture de l’école.
  • Créez une affiche célébrant la vision pour le  LLC votre école et les normes de pratique. Partagez l’affiche largement, en imprimée et en virtuelle.
  • Créez un vidéo ou une infographie montrant comment vous avez abordé chaque norme de pratique ou une norme particulière de la LLC. Partagez le produit largement via votre bibliothèque d’apprentissage virtuelle, un site Web / bulletin de l’école, etc.

Et les choses sérieuses (mais extrêmement importantes)!

  • Associez vos objectifs scolaires au cadre de normes dans une présentation à partager avec l’administration, le personnel scolaire et les parents.
  • Organisez votre proposition de budget et votre rapport annuel en utilisant cette corrélation.

Célébrer le jour

Que pouvez-vous faire à la date indiquée pour célébrer la Journée nationale des bibliothèques scolaires le 28 octobre 2019? Assurez-vous de faire le lien avec vos réussites dans le domaine de l’apprentissage avec le document L’apprentissage en tête.

À votre école:

  • Organiser une journée portes ouvertes à la bibliothèque 
  • Organisez un événement spécial à l’échelle de l’école lié à un programme particulier dans votre bibliothèque:

  • Présenter le travail de la bibliothèque scolaire aux principaux responsables de l’administration et de l’enseignement du district scolaire

Dans votre association:

  • Déclarer JNBSC dans la province / au territoire et soutenez les écoles et les commissions scolaires avec leurs célébrations
